Hibernian Law Journal launches Case Note Competition 2021

The Hibernian Law Journal has opened submissions for its Case Note Competition 2021.

Case notes of 2,000 to 4,000 words are sought by the Journal on any recent seminal judgment of the Irish courts, the EU courts or the European Court of Human Rights.

In particular, the Journal would welcome case notes on the recent Supreme Court judgments in UCC vs ESB [2020] IESC 38 and Friends of the Irish Environment vs Ireland & ors [2020] IESC 49, and on the judgment of the High Court in Aberken Limited T/A Sinnotts & Ors v FBD Insurance plc [2021] IEHC 78.

Submissions should follow the OSCOLA Ireland style and be sent to editor@hibernianlawjournal.com by 7.30pm on Friday 26 March 2021.

Judgments of other common law and international tribunals will be considered provided they are comparatively relevant in an Irish context.

The Journal has emphasised that case notes submitted should critically analyse a judgment in terms of, where relevant, its legal background, persuasiveness of argument, comparative context, internal consistency, novelty, policy considerations and/or potential future developments and ramifications.

Established in 1999 under the patronage of the Law Society of Ireland, the Journal is edited by trainee and newly qualified solicitors. It is kindly supported by its benefactors drawn from the Inner Bar and its sponsor firms Arthur Cox, ByrneWallace, Matheson, and McCann FitzGerald.

Any queries relating to submissions should be directed to editor@hibernianlawjournal.com. Successful submissions will be published in Volume 20 of the Journal, due for publication in hard copy and online (via HeinOnline and Westlaw) in July 2021.
