Heather Humphreys sued for defamation by left-wing TD

Presidential candidate Heather Humphreys is being sued for defamation by a left-wing TD following remarks she made about a high-profile criminal case.
Dublin firm Prospect Law is reportedly acting for Paul Murphy, the People Before Profit TD for Dublin South-West, in proceedings lodged with the High Court this week.
The case relates to comments Ms Humphreys made in an interview about Mr Murphy’s involvement in an anti-water charges protest in Jobstown in November 2014.
The protest led to a criminal prosecution being brought against Mr Murphy and five others — all of whom were acquitted in 2017.
Ms Humphreys told RTÉ’s News at One that the defamation proceedings were “the tactic of the hard left and Sinn Féin — when they don’t like what you say, they take to the courts”.
She also claimed that Mr Murphy was the “campaign manager” of her opponent in the presidential race, Catherine Connolly, which is not true.
