Government 'lost €4 million' after receiving bad legal advice

Bad legal advice cost the Government at least €4 million, according to a new report to be published by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) tomorrow.

Its latest quarterly report will blame the Chief State Solicitor’s Office of botching a deal at the cost of €4 million, the Irish Examiner reports.

A draft seen by the newspaper includes criticism of the CSSO’s role in a botched building development for the Probation Service.

Poor legal advice from State legal experts is said to have cost the Service at least €4 million, though the CSSO has defended its role.

The final report will be agreed by TDs tonight and published tomorrow.
