Mr Thornton has been a partner in Matheson’s tax department since 2011. He advises on all aspects of corporate tax, and his practice includes fund formation, acquisitions, disposals, leasing and tax disputes. Mr Thornton advises many leading private fund managers and sponsors, financial institutions and multinational corporations.

Mr Thornton has played a central role in the continued growth and development of Matheson’s tax practice. He is actively involved in shaping Ireland’s financial services industry, serving on the tax steering committee of Irish Funds, having chaired its international tax working group for many years. He has also contributed extensively to consultations on key legislative developments affecting Ireland’s financial services sector.

Mr Thornton holds a law degree from Trinity College Dublin and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Irish Taxation Institute.
