Gardaí to reinvestigate alleged assault of late law graduate and activist

Laura Lee

Gardaí have reopened a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault made by the late law graduate Laura Lee, The Times reports.

Ms Lee, a prominent campaigner for sex workers’ rights, passed away in February at the age of 39 before the conclusion of her court challenge to Northern Ireland’s ban on the purchase of sex.

At the time, Ciarán Moynagh, solicitor advocate at Belfast-based McLernon Moynagh Solicitors, said his client would “be remembered as one of this country’s most fearless human rights advocates”.

An investigation into an alleged assault she reported to gardaí in Dublin last November was closed after she died, but has now apparently been reopened.

According to The Times, friends of Ms Lee have been contacted for statements.
