Gardaí to investigate courtroom photos of anonymous accused

Gardaí have launched an investigation into how photos of an accused in the dock at Swords District Court were taken and distributed on social media.
A photo of the 24-year-old woman, a teacher accused of engaging in a sex act with a teenage boy, appeared online after a hearing, the Irish Independent reports.
Emer O’Sullivan, solicitor for the woman, said she believed the photo was taken by a journalist or a member of An Garda Síochána based on the angle.
Ms O’Sullivan applied for a contempt of court ruling, but Judge Dermot Dempsey said that was impossible until the identity of the photographer was known.
The accused will appear before Swords District Court again next month.
