Founder of organisation supporting lay litigants loses own court battle

The founder of an organisation helping lay litigants fight repossession orders has lost his own case in the High Court, the Sunday Business Post reports.

The court granted Pepper Finance a repossession order for the Kildare home of Byron Jenkins and Adrienne Jenkins.

Mr Jenkins is the founder of The Hub-Ireland, which he said he was inspired to set up following his own mortgage problems.

The pair had drawn down a €350,000 mortgage from GE Capital Woodchester in July 2008 and built up arrears of €326,749 as of last June.

Their first default occurred in November 2008 and the total sum outstanding is now €599,698.

GE Capital Woodchester was sold to Pepper Finance in September 2012.

The couple represented themselves as lay litigants in the court battle until last July, when they engaged a solicitor and counsel.
