Former legal eagle celebrates 100th birthday
Carlow woman Eileen O’Leary, well known for working alongside the late solicitor Ronald J. Clery, has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Legal figures were among those who joined Mrs O’Leary as she was presented with the Centenarian Bounty, the national award bestowed by the President of Ireland to honour citizens who have reached 100 years of age.
Working with Mr Clery for more than 30 years in his offices at Cox’s Lane, Court Place and finally Centaur Street, Mrs O’Leary earned a reputation for her dedication, expertise, and commitment to their clients.
David P. Clery, solicitor in Ronald J. Clery & Co, led tributes to Mrs O’Leary.
“Today we honour Mrs Eileen O’Leary — a dedicated legal secretary and commissioner for oaths who stood at my late father Ron’s side for over 30 years as a solicitor, and who now celebrates an extraordinary century of life,” Mr Clery said.
“Her grace, loyalty, beautiful handwriting and delicious home-baked treats were the steady heartbeat of his practice.
“With impeccable professionalism and a gentle spirit, she kept the office running seamlessly, offering wisdom far beyond her role and kindness that touched everyone who crossed her path.
“Here’s to a wonderful woman, mother and grandmother on her 100th birthday — a true treasure, and forever part of my family’s story.”
Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, barrister and Fianna Fáil MEP for Ireland South, added: “Eileen’s life and career are an inspiration.
“Her contributions to the legal profession and her community in Carlow have left a lasting legacy.
“Celebrating her 100th birthday is not just a personal milestone, but a recognition of a life dedicated to service, integrity, and excellence.”
Mrs O’Leary lives on Montgomery Street in Carlow and was married to the late Sean O’Leary, a former primary school principal.
