John Cronin, former chairman and managing partner of McCann FitzGerald, has become the first solicitor to be elected president of the British-Irish Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Cronin will succeed outgoing president Eoin O’Neill to become the sixth president of the Chamber.

The lawyer is currently head of McCann FitzGerald’s Brexit group, and will draw on his years of experience providing legal and strategic advice to corporate and financial institutions and State agencies across a variety of sectors.

Mr Cronin is also a non-executive director of building materials group Kingspan Group Plc.

Commenting after his election, Mr Cronin said: “The maintenance of focus on the value of the two- way trade between Ireland and the UK is key to the Chamber and we wish to play a role in shaping a successful future for such trade irrespective of Brexit and its possible outcomes.”
