Former Ennis solicitor Michelle O’Keeffe has reappeared in court on charges of stealing over €170,000 from 11 people over a five-year period.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the case proceeds by indictment to Ennis Circuit Court, the Irish Examiner reports.

A book of evidence was served on Ms O’Keeffe and Judge Patrick Durcan sent the case forward to the next sessions of Ennis Circuit Court.

The maximum sentence for theft in the Circuit Court is up to 10 years.

Ms O’Keeffe faces 19 charges of alleged theft totalling €170,830 between January 2006 and December 2011, as well as allegations that she failed to maintain accounting records as prescribed by the Solicitors Account Regulations 2001 contrary to section 86 of the Solicitors Act 1954.
