Department to consider deadline extension for inquiry into Garda investigations

Retired judges examining allegedly flawed Garda investigations have asked for more time to conduct their inquires, The Times reports.

Patrick Clyne, Patrick McMahon and Donagh McDonagh were appointed in 2017 to consider complaints about three separate Garda investigations.

They were originally asked to report back before the end of 2018 and already received an extension to the deadline.

Their requests for a further extension are now being considered by the Department of Justice.

A spokesperson for the Department said: “There was a combination of factors beyond the control of the judges … which contributed to their inability to report.”
