Solicitor Deirdre-Ann Barr has been reappointed as chairperson of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS).

Ms Barr was previously a corporate partner at Matheson and later served as the firm’s head of risk and then as its general counsel.

She has served since June 2022 as chairperson of the IBTS board and its performance and development committee.

Ms Barr first joined the IBTS board in March 2019, having previously been a member of the IBTS audit, risk and compliance committee and chair of the pension trustees of the IBTS pension scheme.

A solicitor and notary public, she holds a number of non-executive roles and is a member of the board of Coillte CGA, where she is also a member of the investment committee and the remuneration committee.

Ms Barr has been reappointed to the IBTS board by health minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill for a two-year term ending 22 June 2027.

Established in 1965, the IBTS is the statutory body with responsibility for the national blood supply.
