David Andrews SC, barrister and former foreign affairs minister, has died at the age of 91.
“Once known as ‘the conscience of Fianna Fáil’, he was a rallying-point for opponents of the leadership of Charles Haughey, one of Ireland’s most divisive figures.
“Mr Andrews is the father of Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews, who represents the Dublin constituency.
“Like his son, Mr Andrews was also spoken about as a potential Fianna Fáil candidate for the presidency of Ireland.”
