Court art to be exhibited in Distillery Building today

Dozens of works by court artist Mike O’Donnell will be exhibited in the Distillery Building later today.

The “Prima Facie” exhibition presents over 60 works completed from the first day of the legal year in October 2024 to the end of April 2025.

The entire exhibition comprises around 600 figure drawings, all drawn from real-life proceedings within the Four Courts and in the Criminal Courts of Justice.

Mr O’Donnell told Irish Legal News: “I’m very privileged to be able to do the work that I do and I am grateful to the many people — judges, barristers, judicial assistants, court officials and police who enable me to do so. I am given privileged views at hearings.

“I’m especially grateful to all at the Bar of Ireland for hosting my exhibition. It’s my first exhibition there in 14 years. Every member of the legal community is invited.”

All members of the legal profession and judiciary are invited to the opening of the exhibition at 5pm today. The exhibition is not open to the public.

Mr Justice Patrick McGrath will open the exhibition, where Shauna Davey BL will play the harp and John O’Donnell SC will recite from his literary works.

Elaine Stenson, court reporter and broadcaster, will share MC duties with Johnnie McCoy JC.

Refreshments will be served.
