Clíona Kimber SC has been appointed chair of the Employment Bar Association (EBA).

The EBA is an association of senior and junior counsel who are members of the Bar of Ireland.

They specialise in employment, equality and labour law in litigation and in advising and supporting employers and employees in resolving workplace disputes.

Ms Kimber told Irish Legal News: “The Employment Bar Association is a hub and a resource for expert Irish employment law barristers, providing continuing professional development in this technical and specialist area of law, and organising events where our expert members can meet and exchange experience and knowledge and so that we can provide much-needed excellence in litigation services, advice, information and also mediation to the Irish market.

“In the next year, we are going to continue to provide this expert training for specialist employment law barristers because we’ve found that our talks and technical courses on the finer points of law have been a real asset and an inspiration for our members.

“The big difference this training makes is that we can provide world-class legal services in litigation as well as advice, support and mediation to the Irish market in resolving workplace disputes, which our members are telling us is becoming a very valued skill.”

She added: “The recent Mediation Act, underlines the need for insightful, capable mediation services, which employment law barristers are in a great position to provide.

“I’m looking forward to my time as chairperson to keep inspiring my colleagues to continue training and to expand our profile internationally, but also to bring events locally by giving world class talks and continuing professional development on employment law around Ireland.

“I’ll also keep an eye to making sure our content is fresh and up-to-date. I would like to invite all employment lawyers and those who work with employment and equality rights to come to our flagship annual Employment Law Conference on November 23rd at the Law Library in Dublin.”
