CCPC opens investigation into CSG’s proposed acquisition of Celtic Water Care Solutions

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) will carry out a full phase 2 investigation into the proposed purchase of Celtic Water Care Solutions Limited by CSG Chemical Solutions Limited (CSG).

CSG is headquartered in Shannon and provides chemical solutions to the water treatment, environmental and hygiene industries.

Celtic Water Care Solutions is headquartered in Co. Cork and advises commercial, industrial and public sector entities on their water treatment requirements. It also supplies chemicals and consumables for use in their customers’ treatment plants.

Under competition law, the CCPC must assess certain mergers and acquisitions in order to prevent harmful effects on competition in the State. In doing so, the CCPC considers the potential impact of mergers and acquisitions on consumers, such as changes to price, consumer choice, quality and innovation.

This proposed transaction (M/26/002) was notified to the CCPC on 6 January 2026. Following a preliminary examination, the CCPC has decided an in-depth investigation is needed to establish whether the proposed transaction will result in a substantial lessening of competition in the State.
