Catherine Connolly inaugurated as president

Catherine Connolly has been inaugurated as president of Ireland.

The former barrister triumphed in last month’s presidential election, winning 914,143 first-preference votes or 63 per cent of the total.

President Connolly is now the 10th president of Ireland, succeeding Michael D. Higgins, whose term expired at midnight.
