At least six DePuy artificial hip claims to go through the courts this year

At least six claims for compensation from artificial hip manufacturer DePuy are set to be dealt with through the Irish courts this year, instead of the special alternative dispute resolution system put in place.

Over 1,112 cases have been brought against the company, a subsidiary of US multinational Johnson & Johnson, since its metal hip product was recalled in 2010, The Irish Times reports.

However, only 100 cases were resolved last year and Malcomson Law is preparing to argue in court that the ADR process is not working.

The firm, which represents 120 claimants, will argue before the High Court that the scheme has clearly failed as only three cases were processed through the ADR scheme in the last six months.
