Addleshaw Goddard hosts Employment Law Training Day in Dublin

Addleshaw Goddard Ireland hosted its annual Employment Law Training Day at The Merrion, bringing together industry representatives to explore key employment trends shaping 2026.

The half-day event focused on providing attendees with the latest updates on recent advancements in Employment and Immigration Law in Ireland, along with practical training and support for navigating issues within the workplace.

With June fast approaching, when the EU Pay Transparency Directive is to be transposed into national law, Addleshaw Goddard, supported by colleagues from its offices across Europe, provided invaluable insight into the implications the Directive will have on the recruitment, promotion, and pay processes of businesses operating in Ireland and across Europe. While the national legislation and guidance have not yet been published, attendees were provided with practical steps as to how they can start to prepare for this legislation.

The event also explored other areas of change to Employment Law, including: Revenue guidance on employment misclassification and the recent WRC approach; 2024 EU platform‑worker directive; Handling requests to work past contractual retirement age; Evolving trends in flexible, remote, and part‑time work requests; Immigration law changes, the Government action plan to promote collective bargaining rights and the directive to strengthen the role of European Works Councils.

With practical breakout sessions providing step-by-step guidance on investigations into bullying and harassment allegations, and absence management for both short and long-term absences, up to 50 clients were in attendance on the day.

Maura Connolly, partner, head of employment at Addleshaw Goddard Ireland, said: “It is great to have received such positive feedback throughout today’s session. It’s clear from our engagement with our clients throughout the day that the changing nature of employment law continues to create challenges for organisations. Our clients are balancing the burden of increased regulation across Europe and Ireland with their business imperatives and value practical guidance.

“Of significant concern is the upcoming deadline for the EU Pay Transparency Directive, where, in the absence of local legislation, there is a lack of clarity on many key issues. At Addleshaw Goddard, we understand how daunting employment law can be, which is why we believe it is important to provide our clients with practical steps to help them not only navigate the implications for their businesses, but also provide them with a best practice approach to support them with queries frequently seen in the workplace.”
