And finally... young love

India’s top judge has warned against nationwide restrictions on pornography on the basis they could lead to a violent youth insurrection.

Chief Justice BR Gavai made the remarks after a petition was brought to the Supreme Court of India seeking greater restrictions on pornography.

The petition seeks to direct the Indian government to develop a national policy and action plan to reduce the viewing of pornography, particularly among children, India Today reports.

At the outset of proceedings, the chief justice sounded a note of caution, pointing out that social media restrictions triggered the so-called “Gen Z protests” in neighbouring Nepal.

Young people burned down government, court and political buildings during the week-long unrest which brought down the Nepalese prime minister.

“Look at what happened there,” the chief justice said. “What was the result? Everyone has seen it.”

The petition hearing has been adjourned until December — meaning it will resume after Chief Justice Bavai’s retirement in late November.
