The gift package — which also included cigarettes, rolling tobacco and cannabis — was dropped by drone into a prison in South Carolina.

South Carolina Department of Corrections said it recovered both the package and the drone on Sunday morning, before inmates could reach it.

Some prisoners appeared to be “planning an early holiday Old Bay crab boil and steak dinner”, the prison service wrote on X.

A spokesperson added: “I’m guessing the inmates who were expecting the package are crabby.”
