And finally… that will be £1 million madam

A madam who was jailed for five years for brothel keeping, living off the earnings of prostitution and money laundering faces a £1 million confiscation order as her affairs are wound up.

At Stirling Sheriff Court, Margaret Paterson, 63, was ordered to pay back profits from her illicit business.

In September 2011, police raided her premises on Grosvenor Street in the West End of Edinburgh, finding 100 boxes of unused designer shoes as well as 400 designer handbags stacked in a pile seven feet high.

There was also evidence of a spending spree in some of Edinburgh’s most expensive shops in addition to £204,000 in cash.
