And finally… taking out the trash
A senior JPMorgan Chase executive has been fired after being identified as the woman seen in a viral video emptying and apparently taking a commemorative New York Knicks-themed rubbish bin.
According to the New York Post, 40-year-old Angie Baez was identified as the person shown in footage recorded during the Knicks’ championship parade in Manhattan last week.
The blue-and-orange bins had been installed by the New York City Department of Sanitation to mark the Knicks’ first NBA title in more than 50 years.
A spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase confirmed on Wednesday that Baez, who had served as executive director of community and industry engagement, no longer worked for the company. The bank declined to say whether her departure was connected to the video.
The Department of Sanitation said the bin was returned on Wednesday morning.
“First, we would reiterate previous comments that dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do,” the department said in a statement. “On top of all that, doing both on camera is incredibly stupid.”
The video was originally posted on TikTok. The woman who shared it later expressed regret over the reaction it generated.
“I genuinely feel so bad for her,” she wrote on Instagram. “I never expected the response to be so negative when I posted that video. This is what our parents warned us about.”
