A gynaecologist who worked at a Dutch hospital fathered at least 17 children using his own sperm and without telling the parents, it has emerged.
Jan Wildschut, who has since died, worked at Isala Hospital in the city of Zwolle between 1981 and 1993.
“From a moral perspective, Isala finds it unacceptable that a gynaecologist-fertility doctor was both practitioner and sperm donor,” the hospital said in a statement.
Wildschut’s donor children, whose parentage has been confirmed via DNA tests, and his family have a good relationship with each other, it added.
The authorities have created a DNA profile of the late doctor so that other children can check if he is their father.
The tale is similar to that of Dr Jan Karbaat.
