And finally… salsa verdict
A judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought against a New York City taqueria by a German tourist who complained its salsa was too spicy.
Faycal Manz sought $100,000 in damages (around €87,350 or £75,470) from Los Tacos No. 1, USA Today reports.
“For someone like me living in Germany and eating nothing spicy, it was a very big shock physically and mentally,” Manz said in a court filing.
He claimed to have suffered gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure, emotional distress and “tongue blisters” from the spicy salsa.
Taking short shrift with the claim in a ruling last week, Judge Dale Ho said: “When it comes to salsa, the spice is often the point.”
Manz failed to prove negligence on the part of the restaurant and could not substantiate his claim the salsa was “dangerously spicy”, the judge noted.
