And finally… pulling power

An 18-year-old who drove a tractor around Derry in a bid to pick up women has been fined £50.

Anthony Breslin admitted having no L-plates on his tractor during his ultimately unsuccessful jaunt through the city in August.

The farm vehicle was seen driving up Shipquay Street and through the Diamond before being stopped by police on Orchard Street.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told Londonderry District Court that Mr Breslin had been sent by his father to look after some cattle, but took “the head staggers” and went to look for women in Derry.

The lawyer added: “We all know tractors are all about pulling power - but this is taking it to extremes.”

District Judge Barney McElholm also quipped: “This is Don Juan - I was going to say Derry Juan but that would not be correct.”
