And finally… Pisa nonsense

The Italian government is facing calls to crack down on “questionable mozzarella” made abroad and marketed as Italian.

A product purporting to be sliced mozzarella, produced in Austria by a Chinese-headquarted company but featuring the Leaning Tower of Pisa on its packaging, has been reported to ministers.

Tommaso Razzolini, a Venetian councillor from Italy’s ruling Brothers of Italy party, has called the product an “insult to Italian agrifood excellence”, The Guardian reports.

He added: “I reported what appears, to all intents and purposes, to be yet another case of counterfeiting to the detriment of Italian agri-food excellence.”

As well as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the packaging also shows a traditional Venetian gondola, which Mr Razzolini suggested was “exploitation” of the region.
