Bernard and Kathleen Allen, from the Isle of Lewis, claim that the Belted Galloway bull was found a number of times on land where there livestock was kept, the BBC reports.

The Allens are seeking more than £20,000 in compensation, saying the incidents compromised the status of the herd.

Former neighbours David and Janine Hargreaves, owners of three Belted Galloway heifers as well as a bull, deny the claims, saying it was the Allens’ responsibility to ensure the fence was stock-proof.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard that the Allens found out in 2009 that the bull had gotten in amongst their cows and had damaged fences.

They say it happened 30 times until 2010 when they built a two-metre fence.

It is also alleged that one of the pedigree Highland cows gave birth in 2010 - to a Belted Galloway calf.
