And finally… judge is bugged

A newly-discovered species of leaf-dwelling praying mantis has been named after US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Scientists at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History said the insect’s neck plate closely resembles Justice Ginsburg’s jabot.

But they also said the name was chosen because this mantis was classified based on the female insects’ genitalia, defying the more typical classification of insects based on the male’s genitalia.

PhD candidate Sydney Brannoch said: “It is my hope that our work not only sets a precedent in taxonomy but also underscores the need for scientists to investigate and equally consider both sexes in other scientific investigations.”

Justice Ginsburg likewise made feminist history when she became the second-ever woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.
