And finally… heads up

The remains of an indigenous couple which were taken from their grave in Canada and shipped to Scotland nearly 200 years ago have been repatriated.

Edinburgh explorer William Eppes Cormack took the skulls of Chief Nonosabasut and his wife Demasduit from a grave in Newfoundland in 1828.

The National Museum of Scotland, which has held the remains since then, initially denied a repatriation request from Chief Misel Joe of the Miawpukek First Nation in 2016.

However, following a formal request from the Canadian government, the museum has now returned the remains, The Times reports.

Dwight Ball, premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, said: “After almost 200 years they are finally home. Discussions are under way on where the couple will finally be laid to rest.”
