And finally… gold rush

More than two dozen people were discovered smuggling gold in their rectums on two flights to India in an operation of unusual size.

Over 10 kilograms of the metal was found on 37 passengers across two flights from Sri Lanka to India, with 29 of the smugglers opting to stow their booty in their booties.

A spokesperson for India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said: “The uniqueness of this case is that huge numbers of people concealed the gold in their rectums. Rectum concealment by this many guys is a first.”

The gold was confiscated but all of the smugglers walked free, as none of them were individually over the criminal threshold.

In the 2016-17 fiscal year, the DRI recovered 560kg of illegal gold.
