And finally… fowl play

A former MP in Romania has been jailed for two years after he was found guilty of bribing voters with pieces of grilled chicken.

Florin Popescu was tried for corruption after it emerged he had asked a local investor to send him around 60 tonnes of chicken.

He then had the chicken packaged and distributed to voters from poorer districts during his 2012 local election campaign.

The chicken producer eventually came clean, forcing Popescu to resign ahead of his criminal trial.

The court’s decision is final and Popescu will not be eligible for parole.
