And finally... eye on the ball

A Toronto cannabis retailer was ordered by FIFA to stop selling bongs modelled on the World Cup trophy after the football governing body claimed they infringed its intellectual property rights.

Cosmic Charlies, which sold the gold-coloured bongs for $50 CAD, received a legal letter demanding it cease sales and provide details including receipts, marketing materials, supplier information and profits.

Store co-owner Sean Kady said he had expected a response from FIFA, which is known for aggressively protecting its trademarks.

“I poked the bear. I guess it was to be expected,” he said.

Kady said the shop had only stocked two of the bongs and sold just one. The purchaser reportedly intended to keep it as a collectible rather than use it.

He said the business would comply with FIFA’s demands and added that he plans to frame the cease-and-desist letter.

“I am going to frame it. One hundred per cent,” he said.
