And finally... eye for an eye

A woman who slapped googly eyes on a divisive sculpture has been convicted of marking graffiti and ordered to pay compensation.

Amelia Vanderhorst, 20, filmed herself making the humorous additions to the Cast in Blue sculpture in the southern Australian city of Mount Gambier while high on MDMA and drunk on three litres of vodka, ABC News reports.

Mount Gambier City Council spent nearly $3,000 AUD (around €1,800 or £1,550) restoring the sculpture – which has been dubbed “the Blue Blob” by unimpressed locals.

Shortly after the vandalism last September, local mayor Lynette Martin said: “People don’t have to like it, but they don’t have to be creating wilful damage in this way.

“I think it’s inappropriate and disrespectful and there’s many members of our community who’ve embraced Cast in Blue.”

Vanderhorst pleaded guilty in Mount Gambier Magistrates Court to a charge of marking graffiti and was ordered to pay $2,000 AUD (€1,200 or £1,050) in compensation and carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.
