And finally… cop on
A police force has reminded officers not to leave their keys in unoccupied police cars after one was stolen during a chase.
Officers in southern New Zealand were chasing down a suspect on foot last August when he circled back and drove off with the police car.
The vehicle was later recovered but two handguns were stolen from the pistol lock box. The suspect was later caught.
The New Zealand Police has now issued national guidance advising officers never to leave their keys in the ignition, RNZ reports.
Southern District Commander Superintendent Paul Basham said changes have been made “at both district and national level to help ensure this type of incident is never repeated”.
