There were concerns of mass allergic reactions after viral social media footage appeared to show a man covered head to toe in peanut butter wandering around the campus of Purdue University in the US state of Indiana.

The brief footage was widely compared to the famous 1967 clip of Bigfoot, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier.

It also prompted a clean-up operation by university officials concerned about an impact on students with nut allergies.

A police spokesperson said they had tracked down the man and established he was a student who was covered in sunflower butter.

No further investigation was necessary as police determined that no crime had been committed.

“At the end of the day, if this is the biggest issue we have, we’ll take it any day,” police captain Song Kang said.
