And finally… basta pasta

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has conducted a legally recognised wedding on a pirate boat off the coast of New Zealand.

Toby Ricketts and Marianna Fenn have become the first couple to be married in a “Pastafarian” ceremony, which demands full pirate regalia.

The light-hearted religion, which dates back to 2005, has official recognition in New Zealand as well as Poland and the Netherlands, giving Karen Martyn the legal right to conduct marriages.

She said: “I’ve had people from Russia, from Germany, from Denmark, from all over contacting me and wanting me to marry them in the church because of our non-discriminatory philosophy.

“We will marry any consenting legal adults who meet the legal requirement.”
