And finally… any bort in a storm
A hardcore fan of The Simpsons who paid for a genuine licence plate referencing the cartoon has complained of a deluge of fines thanks to bad motorists using similar fake novelty plates.
Massachusetts woman Katie Unis has the only genuine licence plate in her state which reads “BORT”, WBZ NewsRadio reports.
It references a classic scene from a 1994 episode of the show where Bart is browsing novelty plates in a theme park gift shop and can’t find any with his own name — only the bafflingly more popular Bort.
Unfortunately for Mrs Unis, who lives with her husband in a home adorned with Simpsons and other ’90s memorabilia, novelty plates reading “BORT” are easily purchased online.
She now regularly receives notices of fines imposed on other motorists who have affixed their BORT plates to their vehicles, in some cases illegally.
While there are genuine BORT licence plate holders in all 50 states, the Massachusetts plate looks closest to the plate as it appeared in the cartoon.
Mrs Unis is now disputing fines she has received from across the East Coast, including New York City.
“I’m going to [New York City mayor-elect Zohran] Mamdani with this if it doesn’t get fixed,” she said.
