And finally… American dream
A lawyer tasked with defending the Trump administration in court asked a federal judge to hold her in contempt “so I can get 24 hours of sleep”.
Julie Le, who also told the judge that her “job sucks”, has since been removed from her temporary position at the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, NBC News reports.
She was working for the office while on secondment from the Department of Homeland Security, where her role involved working for controversial immigration enforcement agency ICE, to help it deal with legal challenges to detention.
Ms Le’s remarks came after she was challenged by a judge to explain why ICE has repeatedly failed to comply with court orders in relation to its large-scale deployment in Minnesota.
She told Judge Jerry Blackwell that she was trying to get the agency to understand “how important it is to comply with court orders” but that it was akin to “pulling teeth”, before making her self-pitying comments.
“Some of this is of your own making because of non-compliance of orders,” the judge pointed out.
Ms Le, who was assigned 88 cases in less than a month, is no longer working with the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota as a direct result of her comments.
