And finally… a pilot’s life for me
A man who allegedly posed as a commercial airline pilot to fly for free is facing up to 20 years’ imprisonment.
Canadian man Dallas Pokornik, 33, has been extradited to the US from Panama to face charges of wire fraud.
Over a period of four years, he is alleged to have falsely claimed he was an airline pilot and presented a fictitious employee identification card to obtain hundreds of flights at no cost on three different airlines.
He is alleged to have requested a jump seat in the cockpit of the aircraft, despite not being a pilot and therefore not having the required airman’s certificate, though court documents are unclear whether this was granted.
Pokornik is being tried in a federal court in Hawaii and, if convicted, faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release.
