Top seven Irish law firms see combined turnover reach €755m

Ireland’s top seven law firms saw their combined income grow by €35 million to over €755 million last year, according to analysis published by The Lawyer.

Although six of the seven firms do not release information on their earnings, analysts for the legal publication have estimated their turnover for a league table of European law firms.

The Lawyer’s European 100 report indicated the top firms’ turnover in 2017 was:

  1. Arthur Cox - €150 million (up 4.2 per cent)
  2. A&L Goodbody - €148 million (up 7 per cent)
  3. McCann FitzGerald - €129.5 million (up 7 per cent)
  4. Matheson - €122 million (up 6.1 per cent)
  5. William Fry - €92.8 million (up 5 per cent)
  6. Mason Hayes & Curran - €76 million (down 1.3 per cent)
  7. Dillon Eustace - €37.2 million (up 1.9 per cent)

The top four firms all ranked in the top 30 law firms in Europe by turnover.

Commenting on the figures, Law Society director general Ken Murphy told the Irish Independent: “There is apprehension about Brexit, but there is no doubt the level of activity in commercial law is high at the moment.”
