Court issues order against illegal English football livestreams in Irish first

A court has granted an order compelling Internet service providers to block illegal livestreams of English football matches for the first time in Ireland.

Football Association Premier League Ltd was yesterday granted the order in the Commercial Court against Eircom/Eir, Sky Ireland, Sky Subscriber Services, Virgin Media Ireland and Vodafone Ireland.

The order, granted by Mr Justice Robert Haughton, will require the ISPs to block streams during Premier League matches using advanced technology, The Irish Times reports.

Premier League did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.
