Ronald Appleton KC obituary

An obituary for the late Northern Ireland prosecutor Ronald Appleton KC has been published by The Telegraph.
Mr Appleton was a senior Crown prosecutor for 22 years until 1999, overseeing a number of high-profile Troubles cases.
He passed away in April 2025 at the age of 97.
The Telegraph’s obituary recalls a number of the influential cases in which he was involved, some of which led to important appeals.
“Appleton was considered by many to be an obvious candidate to be made a judge of the Northern Ireland High Court, and he and others later suspected that he may have been blocked by antisemitism among some in the higher ranks of the Northern Irish judiciary,” it notes.
