Criminal defence solicitors sought for research project

Solicitors are invited to participate in research exploring defence solicitor experiences on the use of the intermediary services in Ireland.

This research study is exploring the defence solicitor experiences on the use of the intermediary services in the Republic of Ireland as part of my MSc dissertation in Forensic Psychology and Mental Health.

As a solicitor on the register of defence solicitors in the criminal courts of Ireland your participation would be invaluable to increase the understanding of the use of intermediary’s services.

You will be asked to participate in an in-depth semi-structured recorded interview. This activity will take place at your office. It should take around 60 minutes. This research findings will be used to inform the training of the intermediaries in the Republic of Ireland.

The research is not anticipated to cause more than minimal risk and the harm is not greater than might be experienced in your daily employment as a criminal solicitor. To avoid emotional distress, you have the right to withdraw from the interview process at any point and you can request to skip a question if not comfortable responding and can take a break to avoid fatigue.

There are no questions pertaining to sensitive or personal matters, however, if you feel that this topic may cause any discomfort, please do not take part in this research. Your time commitment will be reduced by facilitating times that suit you and the researcher will travel to your office, or you may choose to attend the researcher’s office in Co Dublin where free parking will be provided. Your professional reputation will be protected with confidentiality.

If you are interested in participating in this research or would like more information please contact the researcher, Dr Catherine Norton at brunelc2@uni.coventry.ac.uk.
