Supreme Court to sit in Galway for first time

The Supreme Court is set to sit in Galway for the first time next month.

The court will sit in NUI Galway on 4-6 March, the first time that it has sat outside of a courthouse since returning to the Four Courts in 1932.

Supreme Court judges will hear the appeal in Fitzpatrick & Anor v An Bord Pleanála & Ors, over whether An Bord Pleanála breached EU law when approving a planning application for development of an Apple data centre and associated grid connection.

Last December, the court ruled that the applicants would be allowed to argue both for the position adopted in the High Court that there is an obligation to carry out a full environmental impact assessment on the entire masterplan, and also to argue for any lesser obligation as a fall-back position.
