Senior officials from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) briefed Northern Ireland lawyers on how to prepare for Brexit at an event hosted in partnership with the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

The event at Law Society House heard from Jenny Pickrell, head of EU exit and trade legal services policy, and Paul Norris, head of international civil and family justice.

Ms Pickrell previously spoke at Law Society House alongside other civil servants in March.

The pair provided an update on no-deal Brexit preparations within the UK government and addressed the impact of Brexit on legal practices, as well as the government’s priorities ahead of the current Brexit deadline.

The briefing covered areas including practice rights; recognition of professional qualifications; civil judicial co-operation; criminal law; provision of legal services within the EU/EEA; and mobility and immigration.

Attendees were also reminded that the MoJ has issued a support document entitled Get Ready For Brexit: Guidance for Lawyers.
