Mason Hayes & Curran (MHC) has celebrated the contemporary art collection in its head office as “one of the most important collections” in a Dublin commercial building.

The firm said part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy is supporting local and international artists by purchasing a number of original pieces of art each year for its private collection.

John O’Brien, associate in the firm’s commercial team, has identified a recent purchase, Hotel Irlanda by Thomas Brezing, as his favourite in the collection.

Mr O’Brien said: “I think this piece is incredibly striking. It is on a huge scale and is hung in a place where everybody entering or leaving our office can see it.

“The contrast between the straight lines and order of the city scape with the disorganisation of colours used throughout the piece is really intense. This piece often catches my eye when I pass it and makes me take a minute to stop and look at it in the round. Any piece of art that can stop passers-by is usually something quite special, in my mind.”
