John O’Neill is a Solicitor Advocate and Senior Public Prosecutor with significant experience of all aspects of work in the magistrates’ and crown courts in Northern Ireland. He is the author of the successful “Criminal Practice and Procedure in the Magistrates’ Court in Northern Ireland” published in 2013.

Mr O’Neill will give an insight into the journey of a summary case through the magistrates’ court from initial investigation by the PSNI to disposal.  In particular he will focus on the test for prosecution and the preparation for and delivery of contested hearings. There will also be a segment on the recent use ofPSNI body worn camera footage and its admissibility and impact as evidence in criminal proceedings.
